Message magazine announces the newest podcast in its expanding lineup. “The Rest of Your Story” features veteran Allegheny East Conference pastor and Philadelphia drive-time radio host Nick Taliaferro. A gifted speaker, singer, writer, interviewer, and community leader, Taliaferro works hard to bring listeners a sense of rest.

Shari Leader, a member of the Lighthouse Fellowship Company in Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, regularly conducts evangelistic series twice a year. She was in the middle of preaching an evangelistic series in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic began to take a turn for the worse. Then infection numbers rose again during the 2020 holiday season. “In January, I was concerned about whether we should do it again. I had the money to do it, but I didn’t have money to waste,” said Leader. “I can’t see the future, so I took it to the Lord.”

This past week, the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association (TICUA) announced its 2021 Hall of Fame inductees, including Southern Adventist University alum Terry Shaw.

While assisting with mobile distribution of goods in Maurepas, La., in early October, a contact from the Indian Nation reached out to Arkansas-Louisiana Conference ACS director Lavida Whitson, asking if we might be able to help them. During the recovery effort after Hurricane Katrina, ACS assisted the United Houma Nation for many months and, based on this history, they were now asking if we might be able to assist during Hurricane Ida recovery.

As we move closer to the enditnow Summit On Abuse in November, we pray that our members will purpose in their hearts to stand for the vulnerable among us. And may we all practice compassion and loving support through acts of kindness and familiarizing ourselves with proper procedures for prevention, reporting and healing in our churches.

Southwestern Adventist University hosted its annual scholarship gala on Sept. 27, 2021. Proceeds from this fundraiser exceeded $100,000 through sponsorships, ticket sales, and donations.

Two groups of Andrews University students received awards at the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) national MathFest conference from Aug. 4-7, 2021, for outstanding student presentations. The conference, which was held virtually this year due to COVID-19, allowed more than 1,000 professional mathematicians and students to present the latest in mathematical research and attend workshops.

The desperate airlift out of Kabul, Afghanistan, had barely kicked into gear last month when a call went out to Wisconsin’s Volunteer Organization Active in Disaster (VOAD) group. There was an urgent need for clothing to help the displaced Afghans arriving in Wisconsin in early September with only what they had on them. Alice Garrett, the Wisconsin Adventist Community Services director started the drive for clothing with a flurry of emails for help on short notice. The response was overwhelming.
