Escalating demands for food throughout the island became an impetus for Adventist Community Services Bermuda to do more. Earlier this year Dora Baker, Bermuda Conference ACS director, recalls, “As the pandemic increased in Bermuda, I began receiving more and more calls for assistance. The needs were far more than we could meet, as we are a very small congregation with mostly senior members on a fixed income.” Baker asked her ACS team, the elders, and other members of the church to join her in seeking God’s help through prayer.

Nine months into the pandemic, and with no end in sight, the holidays approach — and with them come the shadows of uncertainty, fear, loneliness, and depression. The North American Division Family Ministries department has compiled a list of Seventh-day Adventist counselors who can help you during times like these.

Bright and early every Tuesday morning, Pat Bailey shows up at Auburn City Seventh-day Adventist Church to direct cars into the food bank line, the COVID-19 testing line, or both. “I meet every car that comes in,” Bailey says. As a community health care consultant for the city of Auburn, Wash., she helped negotiate plans for the Auburn City Church site to serve as a COVID-19 testing location in the suburbs between Seattle and Tacoma.

As he reflected on the incident, Henry said, “Let me be thankful, first, because he never robbed me before; second, because although he took my purse, he did not take my life; third, because although he took all I possessed, it was not much; and fourth, because it was I who was robbed, not I who robbed.” Unquestionably, Henry’s attitude is one we need, particularly this year.
