There are nine union conferences in the North American Division, and they occupy a unique place in the church. For the division, they help implement division-wide directives and policy, and they channel resources to the conferences. But they are also very local to their territory as union leadership is elected by local conference delegates, and they continue to answer to the local level throughout their terms through a process of ongoing executive committee meetings and constituency sessions.
