    Chaplain Washington Johnson II, Commander, Deputy Chaplain of the United States Coast Guard for Reserve Matters, answered the call to duty to support victims of hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Johnson’s work involved facilitation of religious support that ranged from dispatching reserve chaplains to the affected areas to providing pastoral care to service members supporting the United States Coast Guard's National Capital Region Call Center.

    On Sept. 12, 2017, Tracy Wood was elected director for Youth & Young Adult Ministries of the NAD after being recommended for the position by NAD administration. Wood replaces James L. Black Sr., who will serve as chaplain for the new NAD headquarters and leader of Prayer and Reconnecting ministries for the division.
