Business Students and Entrepreneurs Participate in Hyve Conference at Andrews University
Andrews University hosted the third annual North American Hyve International Conference from March 27–29, a gathering where students, entrepreneurs, ministry leaders and businesspeople networked with fellow innovators and pitched their ideas. Through various workshops and programs on campus, practicing entrepreneurs shared their experiences and advice on how to cultivate a strong business in a way that glorifies God.

It was oboist Afonso Bittencourt Brito’s first time back in his native Brazil since leaving 18 months earlier to study at La Sierra University. During spring break in March, he toured the South American nation and visited his hometown as a member of a La Sierra University Chamber Winds quintet that gave performances and master classes.

Adventist Community Services Disaster Response Director Addresses St. Vincent Volcanic Eruption
The La Soufrière volcano on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent began a series of explosive eruptions on April 9, 2021, sending clouds of hot ash some 20,000 feet into the air, blanketing much of the island in ash and causing water and electricity outages. With couple more explosions since, approximately 20,000 people have been forced from their homes on St. Vincent. ADRA is working with local churches and government agencies in St. Vincent to provide help, reports ACS Disaster Response director W. Derrick Lea.

ADRA Responds To Get Critical Aid to St. Vincent and the Grenadines After Volcano Erupts
On Friday, April 9, 2021, La Soufrière, the highest mountain peak on the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, erupted, forcing more than 20,000 people to evacuate. Ash and smoke completely filled the sky, blanketing neighborhoods and streets across the island on Saturday, and to other islands such as nearby Barbados. Officials expect another larger eruption to occur. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency is working with local authorities in the Caribbean to coordinate relief efforts.

Union College Student Finds Calling as Occupational Therapy Assistant
Alex Ulrich began college as a kinesiology major. She intended to practice physical therapy with her degree, but when a physical therapist visited her class to help the students understand more about what is involved in the position, Ulrich found herself disappointed. ... While doing research on different colleges and their programs, Ulrich came across the Union College Occupational Therapy Assistant program.

Former NAD Treasurer Announces Retirement from Role of General Conference Treasurer
On April 12, 2021, Juan R. Prestol-Puesán, treasurer of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, announced his retirement. This announcement came one day before the 2021 GC Spring Meeting officially began on April 13. He will continue in his current role until July 31. The new treasurer, Paul H. Douglas, elected on April 14, will commence duties on August 1.
