Akehil Johnson is from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He is an young elder at the Ottawa East Seventh-day Adventist Church and also serves in the Ontario Conference youth ministries department as the lay coordinator for Adventist Christian Fellowship, the public campus ministries department. He is studying history and political science while working as a teacher at the Ottawa Adventist School. His passion for ministry stems from his belief in being a “Kingdom Ambassador.” Johnson is featured on the June 2023 Adventist Journey magazine.
Pershawn Mattison

Pershawn Mattison, who works at the Southern Union Conference as administrative assistant for the Ministerial Association, grew up never knowing her half brother. Mattison experienced many challenges growing up and the biggest mystery was who and where her brother was. Mattison ended up joining the Adventist Church, and in God’s timing, she found her brother online. Says Mattison, “It took 34 years for me to find my brother. This [experience] has given me an opportunity to share with others and give them hope.” Mattison is featured on the cover of the May 2023 Adventist Journey magazine.

Gem Castor, an ASAP Ministries ambassador and prayer coordinator living in Michigan, grew up in an Adventist home. But he was more interested in fellowshipping with friends than with God. Several pivotal moments occurred in his life and Castor saw how important it is to have a prayer-filled relationship with God. Castor is featured on the April 2023 cover of Adventist Journey.

Luis grew up Adventist but fell away from the church. He became a nurse at a psychiatric hospital and met Celi, who also worked there. Luis spent money on things he thought would make him happy, and spent time partying. The Singhs had a child together, and one day the child asked “How did the grass get there?” This started a change in Luis, who went back to the Bible in order to teach his son about God. It took some time, but Celi too turned to God. The Singhs are featured on the March 2023 Adventist Journey magazine.

Boyd Stephens is an entrepreneur, IT company founder, and “community steward,” from Montgomery, Alabama. He is passionate about helping others and mentoring young people. Stephens had a conversion experience that changed his life. He shares his story here, and is featured on the February 2023 Adventist Journey magazine cover.

A veterinarian, Sylvia Grove grew up Adventist in Virginia. She attended public schools, including university, and has been an Adventist Christian Fellowship leader at her secular university. Although she has the training to work with exotic animals from her studies and time spent in South Africa, Grove is currently on a mission to help the local community with their animals — continue her ministry with young adults. Grove is featured on the cover of the January 2023 Adventist Journey magazine.

Lentner Tom was born in Kolonia, Pohnpei, and grew up in the Guam-Micronesia Mission region of the North American Division. He ended up going to a Adventist school where student missionaries planted the gospel seeds within him. Years later those seeds bloomed and Tom joined the Adventist church. Tom, who is a local church leader in California, is featured on the December 2022 Adventist Journey magazine.

Millie Mojica is an educator from New York, New York. Mojica grew up in a Catholic family. She learned about Adventists from her neighborhood friend, Robert, when they were in elementary school together. Her love for the Bible and learning led her to embrace God and the Adventist faith, and she now serves as a mentor and youth program director. Moijia is featured on the November 2022 Adventist Journey magazine.

Don Starlin, an electrical contractor and former president of Adventist World Aviation, lives in Berrien Springs, Michigan, with his wife Trudi, who has worked for Adventist Frontier Missions. Less than a year ago, Don received a double-lung transplant after being diagnosed and hospitalized with pulmonary fibrosis. In this video, Don tells his story, and how he was able to share his faith with others before, during, and after his surgery. The Starlins, who involved in refugee ministries, are on the cover of the October 2022 Adventist Journey magazine.
