SAN DIEGO, CA. - On April 24, 2004, 60 married and engaged couples from Southern California participated in From This Day Forward, a one-day celebration of marriage commitment opened to the general public and held at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in San Diego, California.

Sponsored by Family Ministries of the North American Division and co-sponsored by the Pacific Union Conference, the Southeastern California Conference, the Adventist Review and Message Magazine, this is the third of five From This Day Forward marriage conferences taking place across North America in 2004. Marriage conferences have already taken place in Atlanta, Georgia and New Orleans, Louisiana earlier this year.

The event consisted of presentations made by Allan and Deirdre Martin from the Florida Hospital Celebration Health Church; Gayle and Mike Tucker from the Arlington Church in Texas and the new speaker-director of Faith for Today; and by Elaine and Willie Oliver from the North American Division's Family Ministries.

During a day that lasted from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM, couples dealt with issues of oneness, communication, problem solving, forgiveness, sexual oneness and commitment. "This day brought my husband and me closer than we have ever been. I am going home happier, in love, a new bride again." "We experienced great renewal. It got us back on track." "I was moved to focus even more on committing my life to the purpose of satisfying my wife's needs in a Godly way." "It was very emotionally and spiritually thoughtful. I was surprised at how touched I was. I didn't expect that." These were among the many comments made by participants in their evaluation of the conference.

The event concluded with the renewal of wedding vows and the challenge to live, to love, to learn and to leave a legacy. Thirteen of the participants requested Bible studies and are being followed-up.

From This Day Forward marriage conferences are scheduled to take place in Washington, DC on October 9 and Toronto, Canada on November 6. Five From This Day Forward marriage conferences are scheduled in 2005.
