Adventist Family Conference
BERRIEN SPRINGS, MI -- On July 19-21, the Fourth Annual Adventist Family Conference took place on the Campus of Andrews University. Co-sponsored by the Religious Education Department of the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary and Family Ministries of the North American Division, Adventist Family Conference 2002 held under the theme "Families of Faith" hosted more than 130 registrants, many of them working on the graduate certificate in Family Life Education. The presenters and their presentations were absolutely dynamic, informative, and stimulating. The musicians presented wonderfully spiritual numbers that made us long for heaven. And the Sunday afternoon Research Forum sponsored by the Adventist Association of Family Life Professionals featured an array of stimulating research presentations and family ministries programs. One of the attendees exclaimed, "this was among the most inspiring, and educationally stimulating conferences I have ever participated in." Elder Don Schneider, speaker of the recognition ceremony and banquet, became the first NAD President to ever participate in the history of the Family Conference. During the closing ceremonies, Alberta Mazat, noted marriage therapist and former chair of the Department of Marriage and Family Counseling at Loma Linda University, and Becky (posthumously) and Paull Dixon, dedicated marriage retreat presenters and conference directors of family ministries of long standing, received the Distinguished Service Award in Family Ministries from NAD Family Ministries. Adventist Family Conference 2003 will take place on the Campus of Andrews University under the theme "Discipling Children and Teens for Christ," and is scheduled on July 16-20. Two additional days have been added to the conference in order to facilitate the presentation of five of the 10 modules of the Family Ministries Curriculum for Local Church Leaders. This instruction is open to lay and professional church leaders. Completion of the 10-module curriculum will provide certification in local church family ministries, as well as making available CEU credits, or three undergraduate upper division credits from Griggs University (Home Study International) for those who would like to take advantage of this offer. Please begin making plans to attend Adventist Family Conference 2003, and encourage your pastors and lay leaders to make plans to attend as well. -Willie Oliver
