North American Division Commission for People with Disabilities

WHAT IS THE COMMISSION?

The Commission for People with Disabilities (The Commission) is a group of people (disabled and non-disabled) who advocate the mandate of Christ, the mission of church, and the spirit of disabilities ministries as voted by the General Conference in the 1995 session. The group is under the auspices of the General Conference Office of Human Relations.

The Commission is charged with giving study to the needs of people with disabilities and recommending courses of action to meet the four major goals of the ministry.

The Commission is comprised of representatives from the Division, Union, Conference, and local church levels.  Other members of The Commission include persons from the educational arena, the professional and private sectors, and pastorate.  This blend across the church population gives The Commission a rich resource of experience and professional expertise.

Although The Commission meets once a year, its members assist each other throughout the year with programming and resources.  Members visit different conferences and unions to promote disabilities awareness.
