Local Church Disabilities Ministries Leader

The nominating committee of the local church selects the church Disabilities Ministries leader/coordinator. [The Personal Ministries Department under which the Disabilities Ministries is housed, may by careful observation and prayer, suggest an individual’s name for consideration by the Church Board.]

Goals and Objectives

To articulate the basic concept of the Disabilities Ministries program to the pastor, church members, and church board.
To create an atmosphere that is safe, friendly, and comfortable for all church members focusing on the needs of people with disabilities through education, service, and communication.
To lead the church, along with other departments, in the privilege of evangelizing people with disabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop methods to identify the needs of members with disabilities in the church and community.
  • Develop an effective method to evangelize people with disabilities in the community.
  • Develop methods to integrate people with disabilities into a full active life within the church family.
  • Create an atmosphere that will challenge people with disabilities to use their talents and skills in the cause of Jesus Christ.
  • Send in a quarterly reports to the conference director.
  • Forward names of people with disabilities to the conference director.
  • Plan at least one Disabilities Awareness Sabbath to continue sensitizing members.
  • Work with professional agencies in the community that minister to people with disabilities.
  • Establish a Disabilities Ministries committee to assist in the creation and implementation of all endeavors.
  • Serve as a liaison between Christian Record Services and other organizations that provide services to people with disabilities.
  • Pursue continuing education for self and team members.
