9-21-11 Griffith Chosen as SWU Executive Secretary
Has served Southwestern since 1998
At the Southwestern Union Conference (SWU) executive committee meeting on Tuesday, September 20, Buford Griffith, Jr., was elected to serve as executive secretary of the Southwestern Union. Griffith assumed the position on an interim basis in May 2011, following the appointment of former union executive secretary, Sam Green, as president of the Southwest Region Conference. In addition to his duties as executive secretary, Griffith will continue to serve, along with his wife, Carmen, as director of family ministries for the union.
Buford (Buddy) Griffith has been a part of the (SWU) family since 1998, serving as vice president for ministries, and as director of family ministries and Sabbath school departments. Prior to coming to the Southwest, he served in the Allegheny West Conference in Ohio, where he pastored for more than 20 years. Griffith holds a master’s degree in biblical counseling from Trinity Theological Seminary and an undergraduate degree from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. The Griffiths are parents of three adult children and they have four grandchildren.
“I’d like to thank the executive committee for their vote of confidence. I look forward to continuing to serve this union to the best of my ability,” Griffith said, following his appointment.
