INSIDE SCOOP —

● URGENT NEED — ADVENTISTS IN AMERICAN SAMOA ARE SUFFERING GREATLY following the tsunami created by the 8.0 earthquake in the South Pacific on September 29. As a U.S. Territory, American Samoa is relying on help from the U.S. There are 15 Adventist families that have lost their homes and another 15 that have lost the contents of their homes. Ten churches have earthquake and water damage. School buildings and staff homes were also affected. There are numerous broken windows, floors, stairs, roofs and concrete walls. Damaged electronic equipment such as copy machines and computers need to be replaced.

In addition, the main industry in Samoa is tuna canning. One of the two canneries has permanently closed and the other has been closed since the tsunami hit and may never reopen. This has left many people without any form of income and little hope of rebuilding.

FEMA is assisting American citizens and nationals, but many people living there will not qualify for aid. Adventist Community Services (ACS) is collecting financial donations to assist with relief and recovery efforts.

Contact: www.communityservices.org or 800-381-7171 to donate by credit card, or mark a donation through the church as “ACS American Samoa.” Donations also accepted by mail at the NAD.
