● COURAGE TO STAND INTERNATIONAL CAMPOREE BAPTISM AND COMMUNITY SERVICE REPORT — On Sabbath, Aug 15, over 500 youth and adults were baptized in Oshkosh, WI. Thousands more went home planning to study toward baptism within the next few months. Pathfinder ministry is still a very effective tool for youth evangelism.

Contact: The Center for Youth Evangelism at Andrews University Seminary at 269-471-8380-8428 or www.adventistyouth.org, for more youth evangelism ideas.

More than 6,500 Pathfinders volunteered for Community Service Projects during the week-long camporee.

Contact: www.communityservices.org for top stories. Watch a video by Tobe Watts at http://tinyurl.com/lyxfkz.

● PATHFINDER CAMPOREE PHOTOS — If your conference and/or churches would like to publish an article with photos about your local Pathfinder clubs at the recent Courage to Stand International Pathfinder Camporee, you may pull photos from www.adventistphoto.com. Photos are listed according to state or province, or you can search for pictures under two directories: International Pathfinder Camporee 2009 and Camporee 2009 Baptisms. If you know the name of someone who is not yet identified in a photo, please contact george.johnson@nad.adventist.org and include picture number and name of the photographer. Please remember to give the photographer photo credit when publishing.

● THERE HAVE BEEN NEARLY 1,800 IPHONE DOWNLOADS FOR THE VOP radio app since its availability on iTunes or the iPhone App store. “Judging by some of the names, many of them are from an audience we don’t usually attract!” says Speaker/Director Fred Kinsey.

Voice of Prophecy radio continues to be one of the most listened to of the Adventist Channel.

● MORE THAN 2,000 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE ASI CONVENTION in Phoenix, AZ. Highlights of the convention included the election of a new ASI president, Norman Reitz, and new officers, an update on the One-Day Church and introduction of the One-Day School, and a special projects offering of over $2 million Sabbath morning.

Video and audio recordings of the ASI Convention sessions and seminars can streamed and down-loaded from the ASI website as they become available. High quality DVD and CD recordings are available for purchase through AudioVerse.

 Contact: http://tinyurl.com/n23ccn

The 2010 ASI Convention will be held Aug 4-7 in Orlando, FL.

● DEPRESSION AND SUICIDES INCREASE DRAMATICALLY during economic recessions. AdventSource sells the Depression Recovery Program, by Neil Nedley, M.D. that can be used as a seminar in a church setting.

Contact: www.adventsource.org and do a search for “depression” for other useful materials to help people combat depression.

● DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS CLAIMED TO BE THE LARGEST COMPLEX IN NORTH AMERICA? It is a Buddhist temple complex in Ukiah, CA, called the “City of 10,000 Buddhas.” It houses more than 200 monks, nuns, and novices. Among other things, it includes a vegetarian restaurant, and has begun outreach to area children.

Members in North America know how to reach out to Christians, but do we know or care how to reach out to the growing numbers of non-Christian religions? To learn more and to subscribe to a newsletter about Buddhist ministry go to http://tinyurl.com/me8uhg

● LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY OFFERS A NEW MPH IN LIFESTYLE MEDICINE — Designed for applicants with a clinical, professional degree, it’s the first of its kind in the country. It takes four to five academic quarters to complete. Almost half of the total course work (up to 27 units) may be completed online.

Contact: hprodept@llu.edu or call 909-558-4741 for more information.
