IMAGINE PENTECOST II
Our division chose a bold evangelism initiative for 2009 and voted to make it the Year of Pastoral Evangelism. Such emphasis is not the only part of this evangelistic endeavor of praying and working for 100,000 souls to be added to the church in 2009. A number of conferences are already making definite plans for aggressive growth. A promotional DVD is being produced in time for the summer camp meetings. Please pray for God to wake us to our mission as never before. There will be more on this in subsequent weeks.
— INSIDE SCOOP —
■ CANADIAN UNION MESSENGER WON TOP AWARDS at the recent Associated Church Press convention: Best in Class – Acorn Award of Excellence for “Letters to the Editor,” and the Award of Merit for a professional resource article.
Contact: http://www.sdacc.org/index.php?Section=2 to check out the Messenger online.
■ AN ADVENTIST CONGREGATION WON A $3.7 MILLION LAND-USE suit judgment due to discrimination on the basis of religion.
■ A TORNADO DAMAGED THE G. E. PETERS ADVENTIST SCHOOL in Maryland April 20.
Contact: www.adventistreview.org for the story and photo.
■ MISSION OPPORTUNITY IN ALASKA — The teenager suicide rate in Alaska is 400% higher in some villages than in the rest of the U.S. The Alaska Conference invites teachers to come and teach in the public school system there. Alaska has difficulty getting teachers who can adapt to the living conditions and isolation they may face there. Average starting salary is over US$50,000. If not certified to teach in Alaska, there are programs to get you started.
There are villages with Adventist churches that need assistance and leadership.
Contact: www.alaskaconference.org and click on “Arctic Mission Adventure” for more information.
