■ NONPROFIT LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATION — Increase the effectiveness of your community service programs, the amount of good that can be done, the perceived authenticity of the Adventist church in the community, the number of people who can be helped, and more. Encourage qualified people to attend the Nonprofit Leadership Certification Conference, Level 1. It will be held in Gladstone, Oregon, May 4-9.
Contact: www.plusline.org/eventdetail.php?id=1019 for more information and to register. Earlybird deadline, April 2.
■ CHURCH GROWTH AND COMMUNITY SERVICE STRONGLY CORRELATED — "Research has shown that visible involvement in the local community is strongly correlated with growing Adventist congregations... Two types of community service that correlate strongly with church growth for Adventist churches are substance abuse recovery and after-school programs for underprivileged children. In both of these areas Adventist churches are less than half as likely as other denominations to be active. This is true for all Adventist congregations across the country, and metropolitan churches are no stronger." – Creative Pastor, www.creativeministry.org/article.php?id=738.
Training is available for churches to run such programs. Send your pastors, community service leaders and interested lay members and professionals to the Nonprofit Leadership Certification Conference.
■ HOST AN INTERNET EVANGELISM DAY — Some churches still do not know that every Seventh-day Adventist church in North America, including their own church, has a website. Websites are most effective when they are personalized and updated on a regular basis. By hosting an annual Internet Evangel-ism Day at their church, pastors can let people know about their church website and find volunteers and support for involvement in the church web ministry.
The Internet Evangelism Coalition has set a target date of April 28 for an “Internet Evangelism Day, but it can be held anytime.
Contact: www.ied.gospelcom.net for presentations and handouts to help build and promote an interest in Internet Evangelism.
■ AWARDS FOR “CHRISTMAS AT CADILLAC JACK'S” — The NAD Christmas Show, produced at the Adventist Media Center, has won both a Telly Award and a WorldFest Houston Award.
The Telly Awards honor the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions, and work created for the Web. The 28th Annual Telly Awards received over 14,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents.
WorldFest is one of the oldest and largest film and video competitions in the world, with more than 4,500 category entries from 37 countries in 2007, including 12 major film and video competitions and 200+ subcategories. No awards are given in any category unless the scores from the juries are high enough to place for honors. Overall only 15-20% of the total category entries actually win an award at WorldFest. – Chauncey Smith, Adventist Media Services Agency
■ POLITICS AND PROPHECY, RECENTLY PUBLISHED BY PACIFIC PRESS®, brings together nine experts to tackle some of today’s most pertinent public issues, such as Religious Freedom in the Workplace and the Marriage Debate. It also provides an in-depth biblical and historical look at religious freedom and what it means for us.
