FALSE RUMORS OF SUNDAY LAWS — Rumors and emails have been flying recently about a “secret meeting” in Washington, DC to discuss the passage of a Sunday law. These emails are close duplicates to false ones circulated several years ago, and are not true.

Contact: www.nadadventist.org news section for a letter from James Standish, Director of the General Conference Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Department, and pass this information on to your pastors and members.

■ UPDATE AND ENHANCE YOUR CONFERENCE AND CITY COMMUNITY OUTREACH programs by sending leaders and potential leaders to the National Adventist Community Services (ACS) Convention, June 29 - July 5 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There will be six certification tracks offered: Tutoring and Mentoring, Disaster Response, Community Development, Elder Care, Youth Empowered to Serve, and Crisis Care.

During the convention, the participants also will experience hands-on community outreach activities such as, KIDS Fest, Street Art Ministry, Mock Disaster Drill and Community Needs Assessment.

Contact: www.plusline.org or call 800-732-7587 to register. Go to www.communityservices.org or call 301-680-6438 for more information. Early bird deadline is May 1.

■ PACIFIC UNION COLLEGE DODGED A SERIOUS ATTACK ON ITS PROPERTY RIGHTS in February, as strong political opposition attempted to amend the Napa County General Plan to severely restrict the college's right to develop its property, and create an endowment. After reading Liberty magazine on a flight home, PUC President Richard Osborn recognized a religious land use issue which led to college lawyers contacting the Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Department.

Contact: pat@churchstate.org to receive the March 2008 issue of Religious Freedom in Focus and read the full story.

Should any of your churches or religious institutions face a difficult development process, it would be well to consult with religious freedom attorneys at an early stage in the proceedings to ensure that relevant legal principles are followed.

■ IGNITION SPARKS YOUNG ADULT DISCIPLESHIP — Hundreds of young adults gathered in Dallas, Texas last month, eager to worship, disciple, and revolutionize ministry to their peers.

Contact: The ignition blog (http://ignitionblog.wordpress.com/2008/03/07/sparking-a-movement-of-young-adults/) for a young adult account of the gathering , as well as a 40-days of prayer campaign that followed the event. Find photos from IGNITION in their Facebook group (www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=10455696581). Next, join in the 40 days of prayer and discover with them what GOD reveals. See  http://ignitionblog.wordpress.com.

■ KIDS IN DISCIPLESHIP (K.I.D.) IS A MENTORING MINISTRY conducted in local churches. Many parents are unsure of how to be the primary spiritual mentors of their children. K.I.D. is designed for families and focuses on children, to help parents grow as disciples and disciple-makers to their children. Children learn to daily walk with Jesus and use their spiritual gifts. Families grow closer to each other and to Jesus. Parents and children participate in weekly small group Bible studies and enjoy take-home resources to reinforce mentoring in the home. As a result, the entire church is blessed.

K.I.D. University is three days of intensive training to equip volunteer leaders to direct Kids in Discipleship in the home church. Training is conducted at church-based centers with active K.I.D. ministries and is structured to offer the highest possible level of experience and training.

Contact: www.kidsindiscipleship.org  or call 423-893-3266 for information about future training sessions, and to learn more.
