John Freedman has been elected president of the North Pacific Union Conference by delegates to the union’s regular constituency session held Sept. 25, 2016, in Portland, Ore. Freedman replaces Max Torkelsen II, whose retirement became effective at the end of the session. Delegates also re-elected John Loor Jr. and Mark Remboldt to their respective posts. MORE

Pine Forge Academy alumni celebrated 70 years during the weekend of Sept. 3. Among those present were members of the class of 1966, one of the first classes at PFA to benefit from the policies of the Lyndon B. Johnson administration. PFA welcomed Lynda Bird Johnson Robb, eldest daughter of President Johnson, to speak to the classes and be honored for her family’s contribution to the success of Pine Forge students. MORE



During five Market Nights culminating on Sept. 8, 2016, the Redlands church’s hollow vending machine dispensed free beverages, snacks, dolls, coloring books and crayons, and glow stick tubes. By the final night, the machine had distributed more than 4,100 items. This no-strings-attached giveaway left passersby surprised and curious. MORE

If you have a small church with big ideas for community service and outreach, finding enough volunteers to execute the project may be a challenge.
