God's Closet takes an Adventist tradition and puts a unique spin on it. Begun in 2009 as a local church outreach in Spokane, Washington, God’s Closet is now part of the ministry portfolio of the North American Division (NAD) Adventist Community Services (ACS). “I’m amazed at what God has done with this ministry!” said Merryl Tschoepe, who had the idea to start this outreach ministry. MORE

About 2,000 patients' lives were touched by Jesus through the almost 700 volunteers who converged on the Jumpstart Killeen, Texas, clinic on July 13-15, as they received free health care — and more. In addition to dental, vision, and medical services, patients were offered free haircuts, massages, lifestyle and nutrition counseling, mental health counseling, and pastoral care. MORE

College View Academy senior Demy Sigowa likes computers — so much that he plans to pursue a career in computer science. The desire only got stronger last spring, when he took Fundamentals of Computer Science, part of a Union College pilot program to offer college-level courses to academy students in Mid-America. “I loved the class,” Sigowa said. “My favorite part was the Raspberry Pi section.” MORE

Adventists in the News
Announcements

CORRECTION: We included a news story link about a Union College professor in last week's NewsPoints — the Union College mentioned was not the Seventh-day Adventist college in Lincoln, Nebraska. We regret the error.

There's still time to attend camp meeting in some conferences! Each conference in the North American Division plans a camp meeting (some are 10-day events!) filled with seminars and sermons that teach biblical principles, healthier lifestyles, practical living principles, and more. Check out this year's camp meeting schedule.

REMINDER: On Aug. 13 the loose offering in all NAD churches goes toward supporting and maintaining NAD and GC educational institutions Oakwood University, Andrews University, and Loma Linda University.

Oakwood University'sinstitutional aim "God First!" is the core around which their identity, ethics, values, relationships, and curricula orbits. Whether it’s in the classrooms, dorms, the dining hall, on the campus green, or everywhere in between, Oakwood strives to put God first in everything they do. Funds garnered through fund-raising, receipt of gifts, applications for grants and contracts, and the establishment of scholarships make it possible for improvements to the university's infrastructure in the form of new construction, acquisition and renovation of facilities, and campus beautification. Your prayers, financial support and encouragement are vital to the success of this institution. And special thanks for remembering Oakwood during the Aug. 13 special offering!

Andrews University is blessed to have a church family that supports them generously throughout the year, but especially on this significant Sabbath every other year. Please consider using this half-sheet bulletin insert with stories of two Andrews University students that may be printed and included in August 13 church bulletins. The other is a 3.5-minute video that can be shown during the offering call or announcements.

Loma Linda University Health is in the midst of a comprehensive fundraising effort – Vision 2020 – that will elevate clinical care, education, research and wholeness in the southern California region and around the globe. This commitment is being transformed into action through the construction of a new medical campus that includes a state-of-the-art adult acute care hospital and Children’s Hospital Tower. These new hospitals are central to Loma Linda University Health’s vision to advance this sacred ministry of restoring health and training generations of physicians and health care workers to serve humanity with the highest levels of expertise and compassion. For more information, please visit lluhvision2020.orgwatch the video; download the video fileread an article.

This event promises to provide a time of refreshing so that, as women, we can return to our positions soaring on wings like eagles! Click here for more information/registration.

HE SAID GO Missions Conference 2016: The purpose of this conference, to be held on Nov. 18-20 in San Diego, Calif., is to serve as a catalyst for missions, not only overseas, but also in domestic service. It is our prayer that our local church members become active in their communities and abroad. In order to accomplish this task, we are inviting medical professionals, our union and conference leaders, university/college presidents and their respective chaplains, along with their missions coordinators, to be part of this special gathering. We are also inviting youth directors, youth pastors, academy chaplains, and young adults. From Native American mission opportunities, including the Siberian Eskimos in northern Alaska, to Guam-Micronesia Mission territory, it is our prayer that everyone attending will choose to respond to the opportunities of service that God may present to them. Reaching Out in Love

Church Members Create Curb Appeal

Service is nothing new to the West Palm Beach Spanish Seventh-day Adventist Church (Fla). But this past spring they served the community (#compassion10m) in an extra special way when church members designed and landscaped the outdoor area of two apartments where two single-parent families were preparing to live. After a couple days of major yard clean up, the church and community welcomed the residents with a "block party."

This Aug. 13 and 14 marks another special compassion weekend. What will you/your church do to REACH North America? Let us know on social media: @NADadventist.
