Volunteers are needed in Flint, Mich., where they are facing a huge safe water supply challenge. The city of Flint is utilizing Adventist Community Services volunteers to distribute bottled water. Union College announces Dr. Frankie Rose as the new vice president for Academic Administration. Dr. Frankie Rose has been associate professor of biology at Union since 2010. He replaces Dr. Malcolm Russell, who plans to retire this summer after 13 years in the post.  MORE

The Oregon Conference will air 24-hour television programming in English and Spanish beginning early this year. The channels, 36.3 (English) and 36.4 (Spanish), will initially broadcast Hope Channel and Esperanza TV, with later plans including filming more local programming to create channels that speak to non-Christian Portlanders in a more local-friendly style. Glendale Academy transformed their cafeteria into a student-run restaurant with eight different menus, for an evening called “Science Chef: Fine Dining Edition." Eighth grade students who had recently studied nutrition were entrusted with setting up their own restaurant in order to serve tasty and healthy food. Groups of students were given different jobs to do. Each group appointed a marketer who had to create fliers, posters and 30-second television and radio ads promoting the event, and their group in particular.  MORE

Family Ministries is conducting an on-line survey for all parents of teenagers, asking for your feedback via SurveyMonkey as they begin the development of the third book in their parenting series. This book will focus on parents who have children ages 13-18. You can assist in the development of this resource by answering this one question: What are the top five topics you would like to see in a resource for parents with teenagers? Compassion Weekend of February 2016 will be February 13/14. Join thousands of Adventists of all ages in showing the love of God and the compassion of Jesus in practical ways during this Compassion Weekend. Reach out to someone personally or with your family, even if your church has not planned a "Day of Compassion."  If your church is unable to participate on the second weekend of each month, find a weekend that works and hold it consistently every month; keep in mind that repetition helps to create a lifestyle. We can all reach someone through intentional acts of love and service. For inspiration, ideas, and other resources, see the new Compassion Movement websiteWe would like to see your Compassion stories, photos, and videos. LIFE Summit 2016 – “We Are Listening,” will be held Feb. 17-20 in California, at the Radisson Hotel Ontario Airport in Ontario, Calif. Hosted by NAD Young Adult Ministries, LIFE is an experiential interactive community of young adults and older generation leaders who come together to have conversations where they intentionally hear each other and grow in their relationships with each other and in service for Jesus. The Lake Union Conference Youth Evangelism Congress, Feb. 12-14 in Chicago, will provide a unique meeting place for youth, pastors, youth directors, conference and union administrators to actively rethink the way evangelism is done at local churches by involving youth in the process. "Called to Serve," invites  you to join more than 500 Lake Union Conference senior youth and young adults (ages 16-35) to be inspired, trained, and resourced to use your life to share the good news of the kingdom of God.
