While many attended the General Conference Session meetings, and others enjoyed sightseeing on the River Walk, a group of volunteers took time to show the San Antonio residents they care for them by participating in the four Instep4life health expos during the week.
The first was downtown San Antonio on Sunday July 5, following the 5K Run where 2,500 people took to the streets to spread a message of healthy living.
Three more were conducted during the week of July 7-9 in specific regions identified by the San Antonio Metro Health Department as needy areas (at a community library, a YMCA, and a housing apartment complex for the underserved).
A partnership between the General Conference, North American Division, Southwestern Union, and Texas Conference Health Ministries Departments, along with local pastors, these health expos not only assisted over 500 people with health counseling and screenings, but also opened the way to dozens of other housing buildings and community settings that requested to have them in their facilities throughout the year, setting the stage for long term collaboration with the city metro health department.
