Bike Ride from Dallas to San Antonio Promotes Physical Activity

Pastor Kenn Dixon of the Casalita Drive Adventist Church in Garland, Texas didn’t travel to the GC Session in the usual way of driving or flying ‒ he arrived by bicycle, leading a team of about 20 riders from Dallas to San Antonio to bring awareness to the growing problem of youth and adult obesity in the southwest region of the United States.

Ten of the 11 states that have increased rates of obesity are located in the South and children between the ages of 2-19 are recording dangerous levels of obesity and unhealthy lifestyles choices.

The group rode approximately 325 miles since June 28 to arrive this afternoon at the Alamodome. This four-day cycling adventure spotlighted the Adventist Church’s strong emphasis on healthy choices and being active in our communities. It also aimed to encourage young people and adults to “get moving” and live better.

“We feel that it is our duty to provide leadership, committed role models and wise decision making for a healthy future for the youth and communities we serve,” said Dixon. The ride is slated to become a recurring event. For more information contact Kenn Dixon.
