Colorado Flooding — Survivors will need your ongoing assistance. The flood waters are still hampering transportation, and washouts and mud slides will be making some roads impassable for months. People won't be able to return to their homes until roads are repaired which could take as long as a year in some places. The flooding response has been the largest rescue effort since Hurricane Katrina.
Emergency supplies are being positioned near the flood areas for distribution as soon as access is available. At this time, Adventist Community Services Disaster Response (ACS DR) has been unable to do a complete assessment because of communication difficulties, still-standing water and mud and the unknown factors in much of the hard-hit areas that will need the most help and materials. Most of the thousands who had to be evacuated are still being sheltered by friends, family and the government. Once the water has receded a bit more, it will be possible to set up collection and distribution centers, working in cooperation with the city, county and state for donation management. So far, there is one ACS center which has been set up in Loveland (more (http://www.coloradoan.com/article/20130915/NEWS01/309150028?odyssey=mod|mostcom&nclick_check=1) ). Others will be opened as travel becomes possible. Check the ACS website (http://www.communityservices.org) , the NAD ACS DR
Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ACSDisasterResponse) , and the Rocky Mountain Conference website (http://rmcsda.org/) for the latest news about churches and Adventist families, and for information about needed donations and daily updates about locations.
The greatest need is always for financial donations (http://www.communityservices.org/article/307/news/colorado-flood-survivors-need-your-help) which enable ACS to make large bulk purchases for needs specific to the affected area and that are logistically available via roads open for travel.
Download a church bulletin/information flyer in English (http://www.communityservices.org/site/1/images/Colorado_Flood/ACS_Colorado_English_2up.pdf) in color or black and white. A Spanish translation will be available soon, also linked on the ACS website. Print them out and make them available in local stores and offices as well as at church, for people who may want to help.
Read an update (http://www.nadadventist.org/article/1073742654/news/archived-news-stories/2013-news-archives/9-18-13-floods-ravage-colorado-communities) from Rocky Mountain Conference about local churches and members affected by the flooding.

A new Adventist Community Services video is now available. It tells about the work of ACS all over the Division following recent disasters. It will also be used for the ACS Offering appeal in December. This is an excellent time to share it with others on your website and Facebook page, to let others know how ACS responds and is available at times of disasters. Watch it at the ACS Colorado information page (http://www.communityservices.org/article/307/news/colorado-flood-survivors-need-your-help) .

It is with tremendous sadness that we report that three of our members of the Maranatha French Mission Group in Lauderhill, Fla. have died as a result of a tragic accident on Sabbath while on their way to attend a Haitian Convention. On September 15, I had the privilege of attending the meeting of the Board of Directors of the SDA Church in Canada in Oshawa, Ontario. The work in Canada is thriving and there is a positive sense of unity. One illustration of this was the report presented by Mark Haynal, president of Canadian University College. He gave an outstanding report where he described his experience and that of several college students as they presented evangelistic meetings in the Dominican Republic.
During the same visit, I was given a tour of the new offices of ADRA Canada in Newcastle, Ontario. The building will house the activities there for years to come.
On September 17, I was in Lincoln, Neb., to chair the Board of Christian Record Services for the Blind. A very exciting new initiative for Blind Veterans was discussed. This new ministry will provide "talking books" for military veterans who have been blinded. God is blessing this 'faith' ministry in many ways. — Dan Jackson, president, North American Division

REACH: Revival and Transformation
Revival happens with a spirit of prayer, Bible study and warm Christian fellowship

Praying down Chicago's crime rate wasn't the result of just a once-a-week prayer meeting. When, in January 2012, some pastors of the Chicago, Ill. area were trying to learn what God was calling them to do, they spent 10 nights in prayer together via teleconference. God seemed to tell them that if they wanted to be agents of transformation, first, they needed to be transformed. Since then, they've been meeting via teleconference every night to pray for the 12 most violent precincts of Chicago. They pray not only that people won't be killed, but they also worship and claim Scripture for their salvation.
For a year it seemed like nothing was happening, and January 2013 was a terrible month for homicides, but they kept praying. Suddenly, in February 2013, homicides dropped, and continued to be so low in March and April that local media began to ask, "Why the dramatic drop in homicides?" and surprisingly identified prayer as a possible reason. That's when they learned that a local Baptist pastor and congregation had also been praying for fewer homicides. There were 36 fewer murders in March 2013 – a 69% drop compared to March 2012.
What if this prayer ministry were to spread? Read more in the September 2013 Lake Union Herald (http://luc.adventist.org/Herald%20Site%20PDFs/Vol105-09.pdf) , p. 13.
