10-2-12 New Hope Channel Program, Real Family Talk
"Real" seeks to strengthen family relationships
SILVER SPRING, MD—Adventist Family Ministries and Hope Channel have teamed up to produce a new television series titled Real Family Talk with Willie & Elaine Oliver. The weekly, 30-minute program, hosted by the Olivers, debuts Sunday, October 7 on Hope Channel, Hope Channel Europe, and Hope Channel International.
Through engaging, informative, and spiritual discussions about issues facing today’s families, Real Family Talk seeks to strengthen families and inspire hope. In each edition, the Olivers draw from their pastoral, educational, and counseling experience to navigate discussions about family life, approaching each topic with practical solutions and sound biblical principles.
“We believe that when you have stronger marriages, you are more likely to have stronger families, stronger churches, and stronger communities,” says Willie, a pastor and family sociologist who serves as director of Family Ministries for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
“We want to equip families with the tools necessary to build relationships, improve communication, and make important decisions,” adds Elaine, an educator and counseling psychologist who joins her husband in directing the worldwide ministry.
Their program opens with a “chat” on recent news about marriage and families, transitions to more in-depth discussions, and ends with usable advice.
“The Olivers are really good at talking about everyday life in a spiritual context. Their program provides viewers an excellent opportunity to connect and engage in spiritual discussions about the questions we ask and the situations we experience,” says Celeste Ryan Blyden, senior producer and communication director for the Columbia Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
Brad Thorp, Hope Channel president, agrees. “The Olivers are excellent family life examples and educators who regularly contribute to our programs. We are delighted with how this new program will enhance our efforts to present the wholistic health and lifestyle message of the Seventh-day Adventist Church,” he says.
“Real Family Talk is one more way we fulfill our pledge to deliver the best in Bible study and insights for faithful, healthy living,” says Thorp. “Healthy, stable families are crucial to the vibrancy of the church and society at large, and as the leading Christian lifestyle TV network, Hope Channel provides these kinds of programs to viewers around the world.”
