The NY13 initiative is a comprehensive effort where every member and every department of the church (health, education, families, and others) has the opportunity to do something for the Lord in an integrated way. It is part of the Mission to Cities initiative that was launched in April 2012 when denominational leaders developed plans for renewed outreach in the world’s largest cities.
New York City is the first of 650 cities selected for evangelistic meetings, chosen in part because church cofounder Ellen White wrote that the work done in New York City should be a "symbol of the work the Lord desires to see done in the world." Organizers expect to reach almost 600 cities for Jesus by the end of 2015. More than half of the world’s population lives in cities of 200,000 or more people.
Because NY13 is also linked to the church’s Revival and Reformation initiative to seek the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in prophetic fulfillment for the Second Coming of Jesus, viewers are asked to pray frequently and fervently for the success of this outreach.
