Associate Secretary

Bio
Esther R. Knott is an newest associate secretary for the NAD Ministerial Association, with more than 24 years of pastoral experience. Since June 1997, she has served as an associate pastor at Pioneer Memorial Church on the campus of Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Esther is the point person for carrying out the church’s vision for small groups as the vehicle for connecting, discipling, and evangelism. She also oversees the work of more than 90 parish elders responsible for pastoral care.

After graduating with a BA in Religion from Andrews University in 1980, Esther served as the campus chaplain at Broadview Academy in La Fox, Illinois, until 1983.  Her passion for young adults brought her back to Andrews University in 1985 to work as the assistant chaplain. During that time, she completed a master’s degree in religious education. From 1987 to 1990 Esther worked for the NAD Office of Education, where she was the director for the Adventist Heritage Project, a comprehensive curriculum to introduce Adventist history to elementary and secondary students. In 1990 she accepted a call to be associate pastor at the Sligo Church on the campus of Columbia Union College. There she encouraged evangelism, small group Bible study, and faithful stewardship. Esther also established and led the church’s women’s ministries program and for many years served as the minister of worship.

Esther’s family shares a similar passion for Christ. Her husband, Ronald, is director of Andrews University Press, the denomination’s only regularly established academic publishing house and the publisher of the forthcoming Andrews Study Bible. Their daughter, Olivia (Livvy), attends Andrews Academy in Berrien Springs, Mich., and is the Student Association pastor for the 2009-2010 academic year.

At Pioneer Memorial Church, Esther is collaborating with a team to complete a new curriculum entitled Contagious Adventist—a nine-week seminar that teaches church members how to share their faith by recognizing and creating contagious Adventist moments. Her ministry emphasizes active community engagement. She has been a long-time and active member of the local Rotary Club, has served as its president, and regularly participates on behalf in the church in local civic activities. Esther’s travel schedule includes participation on mission trips and as a retreat, seminar and campmeeting speaker. She is serving her third, elected, five-year term as a member of the Michigan Conference executive committee. As an associate secretary for the NAD Ministerial Association, one of Esther’s duties is to function as an advisor for women clergy issues.
